Esther at some Civil War Battlefields
Here we are on an observation tower at Gettysburg overlooking the site of Pickett's Charge.
In this photo Esther and Dad are leaning against the Innis House, pockmarked with bullet holes, and contemplating the Sunken Road at Fredricksburg.
In this photo, Esther is downright giddy about being at the site Stonewall Jackson was mortally wounded. She was quite disappointed that we weren't able to stop nearby and see the headstone marking the place his amputated arm was buried.
At Petersberg, Esther was able to touch one of the 13-inch Seacoast mortars. This gun weighed over 17,000 pounds.
By the time we reached Bull Run, Esther wasn't much interested in the Civil War and had returned to contemplating her feet.
Here are Esther and Mom ready to get into the car after seeing Bull Run. Esther saw the sites of about 8 battles, as well as driving along the Shenandoah Valley, host to many skirmishes and battles during the war. She slept through most of it.
